RSR is just like any other website, it may take a lot of effort, hard work, and dedication to create, however it does need money to run. Costs include procuring servers, server management, software, and other numorous items that neccessitate some form of income. This is achieved through advertisements, the ones you see displayed on headers and the side logos. Everytime a user clicks on them, RSR recieves a small (very small) amount that when multiplied hundreds and hundreds of times makes enough money to nearly offset the costs.
RSR uses Google Ads, the of the largest and most respected online advertisement agency in the the world. The technology behind it has allowed the Google company itself to grow from a small startup company into a publicly traded company worth billions. Google Ads is unique in that it uses a search alogrithem (the same one you use on Google.com) to find keywords on a website, and then matches them up with an advertisement looking to be posted on a site with those keywords. This means that we have no control over what appears in our Google Ad boxes, except for a small and crude filter. This filter allows us to list specific sites that we don't want listed. Our current list contains over 150 different websites that we have determined to not display, and we are constantly adding more, however we can't check every ad.
What does this mean to you? The ads displayed in the advertisements are in no way supported, approved, or endorsed by RSR, so please click them at your own risk. While we are constantly striving to improve our filters with every bad site we see, we will never be able to catch them all. The sad fact is that many sites we would rather not have displayed are created every day, and we simply can't ban them fast enough. If you see any ad that you think is unappropriate, PLEASE notify us by posting in our Suggestions forum so we can take action.
